Karate Kid: Legends
If you're a fan of martial arts movies with a nostalgic twist, Karate Kid: Legends might just be your next watch. This 2025 entry in the long-running Karate Kid franchise brings together two iconic characters—Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) and Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio)—for the first time, while introducing a new hero, Li Fong, played by Ben Wang.
The story kicks off with Li, a kung fu prodigy from Beijing, who’s forced to move to New York City after a family tragedy. Struggling to fit in and haunted by his past, Li finds himself drawn back into martial arts when a friend needs help. But this time, his kung fu alone won’t cut it. Enter Mr. Han and Daniel LaRusso, who team up to train Li in a fusion of kung fu and Miyagi-Do karate, setting the stage for a high-stakes martial arts tournament.
This film is a continuation of both the 2010 Karate Kid reboot and the Cobra Kai series, so longtime fans will appreciate the callbacks and returning characters. Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio bring their signature charm and wisdom, while Ben Wang holds his own as the new lead. There’s also a solid supporting cast, including Joshua Jackson as a former boxing champ, Sadie Stanley as Li’s love interest, and Aramis Knight as the local karate rival.
At 94 minutes, the movie keeps things moving with a mix of action, heart, and a bit of humor. The martial arts choreography is a highlight, especially the blend of styles that gives the film its unique flavor. And yes, there’s a training montage or two to get you pumped.
That said, critics were a bit divided. Some felt the film leaned too heavily on nostalgia and could’ve used a tighter script. But audiences seemed to enjoy it more, giving it an A- CinemaScore. If you’re into martial arts, underdog stories, or just want to see Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio share the screen, this one’s worth checking out.
However, if you’re not into teen drama or legacy sequels, this might not be your cup of tea. But for fans of the franchise or anyone looking for a feel-good martial arts flick, Karate Kid: Legends delivers a solid punch.
